Some people call him a space cowboy. Some call him the gangster of love. Some people call him Maurice, 'cause he speaks of the pompotus of love.

Sorry. Wrong guy. Actually, Dan Zevin is a humorist who's written three really funny books:The Day I Turned Uncool: Confessions of a Reluctant Grownup; The Nearly-wed Handbook: How To Survive the Happiest Day of Your Life; and Entry-Level Life: A Complete Guide to Masquerading as a Member of the Real World. He's also written for magazines including Rolling Stone and Details, and has been a humor columnist for the Boston Phoenix and Boston Magazine. On this very site, you can tune in to some of the radio spots he's done for NPR, including his unforgettable visit to the Fetish Fair. You can also preview his satirical seminars on post-college coping. And, of course, view a rare retrospective of his much-photographed dog, Chloe Tingley-Zevin.

What are the critics saying about Dan Zevin? We'd rather not get into that, because Dan can not take criticism. But, here are a few people and publications who have shown him the love:

P.J. O'Rourke
"It is with profound glee that we members of Generations W, V, U, T, S, etc. watch Generation X agonize about growing up. The Day I Turned Uncool is one of the great feel-good books of all time--if you're my age. If you're some punk of 39 or less...suck it up dude. It gets so worse."

There are no fart jokes. There is no cruelty to animals. No airborne bodily fluids.

"The Day I Turned Uncool: Confessions of a Reluctant Grown-Up," Dan Zevin's collection of humorous essays on growing older, is part of a wave of urbane, smartly written humor books washing up on Hollywood's shores. read more

...Like Sedaris, he spreads the laughs throughout his essays and avoids zingers - he tells stories, not jokes. But the persona he creates for himself is more like Barry's. Zevin wants us to know that he's just a guy who was once a boy, and that the boy is still alive inside the guy, and that neither of them is entirely comfortable with the grown-up they've become. read more

...In every generation, idealism must bite the dust. But it rarely does so with as much good humor as in Mr. Zevin's book, Entry-Level Life: A Complete Guide to Masquerading as a Member of the Real World. read more

Mrs. Linda Zevin (Dan's Mom)
"He was always a wise-guy. A mensch, but a wise-guy. Even when he was little, I said, "Daniel, you keep making wisecracks and one day, someone's gonna smack you. Who knew he'd wind up making a living at it? Well, maybe not a living, but he gets by."
